Rain and strong winds return cold in Delhi-NCR, IMD issues yellow alert

New Delhi: The people of Delhi-NCR woke up with completely changed weather on Friday morning. While the effects of heat had started being felt till a few days ago, sudden rain, strong winds and thunderstorms changed the weather completely. Due to cold winds, people have started feeling like winter again, due to which the weather has also become pleasant.

This time the month of March has brought more rain than in the last few years. After the recent rains, an average rainfall of 9.4 mm has been recorded in this month, which is the highest in the last three years. However, in 2023, 50.4 mm rainfall was recorded during March, which was much more than this.

Today’s weather: Alert of rain and strong winds

According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain may continue throughout the day on Friday. Along with this, the possibility of thunder and lightning has also been expressed. Strong winds can blow at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour, which can sometimes even reach 50 kilometers per hour. The sky will be cloudy in the morning and periods of rain may be seen from time to time. The rain is likely to continue intermittently in the afternoon and evening also.

drop in temperature

Due to rain and cold winds, a clear drop in temperature has been observed. The minimum temperature has fallen to 18 degrees Celsius. Earlier on Thursday also a decrease in temperature was recorded, when it was around 26.8 degrees Celsius, which went below 30 degrees for the first time in a month. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Friday, warning of more rain and drop in temperature. It is estimated that the maximum temperature may remain between 23 to 25 degrees Celsius.

condition of the coming days

According to the seven-day forecast, the temperature will gradually start rising again after Friday. By March 25, the maximum temperature can reach 32 to 34 degrees Celsius. This means that this effect of cold will not last for long.

Why did the weather change?

Western disturbance is being said to be the main reason behind this sudden change in weather. This system is active over North-West India and has become stronger recently. For this reason, rain, strong winds and clouds are being seen in Delhi and surrounding areas.

According to experts, this western disturbance is a little different from normal and its structure is said to be unusual. There is a pressure area spread over a long distance, which can create strong storms and thunder clouds. Therefore, people need to be alert and follow the advice of the Meteorological Department.

relief from heat

This weather change has recently brought relief from the increasing heat. The temperature had increased rapidly in the beginning of March. On March 11, the maximum temperature reached 36.8 degrees Celsius, which was much higher than normal. On March 7 itself, the temperature had crossed 35 degrees, which was not seen so quickly in the last many years.
