Mumbai Rains: Rain havoc continues in Maharashtra, red alert in many districts including Mumbai

Mumbai Rains: Monsoon is fully active in Maharashtra and continuous rains have started affecting life. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar districts for Friday. There is a possibility of extremely heavy rains, strong winds and waterlogging in these areas. The administration has appealed to people to avoid unnecessary travel and follow weather advisories.

It has been raining continuously in many parts of the state for the past few days, due to which there is a situation of water logging in low-lying areas, affecting traffic and affecting normal life.

Need to be most cautious in these districts

According to the Meteorological Department, the next 24 hours are going to be very important in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar. There may be torrential rain at some places in these districts. Along with heavy rain, there is also a possibility of winds blowing at a speed of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour.

Apart from this, heavy rainfall is also expected in many parts of Konkan region including Raigarh, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. In view of the possibility of landslides in the ghat areas, the local administration has been instructed to take special precautions.

Waterlogging and traffic may be affected

Due to continuous rain, waterlogging may occur in Mumbai and surrounding cities. Traffic can slow down due to water logging on roads, while people in some low-lying areas may face problems in commuting.

The administration has instructed municipal bodies to maintain proper drainage systems, keep pumping stations active and emergency teams to be on alert mode so that any situation can be dealt with immediately.

The Meteorological Department has also advised fishermen to take special precautions. Small and medium sized boats have been warned not to venture into the sea due to the possibility of high waves and rough seas in the Arabian Sea.

People living in coastal areas have also been asked to remain alert and follow the instructions issued by the administration.

Disaster management agencies on alert

In view of the red alert, the state government and local administration have intensified preparations for disaster management. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), fire department and local rescue teams have been deployed in sensitive areas.

To deal with possible emergencies, control rooms are active 24 hours a day and the weather is being continuously monitored.

Advice issued to people

The administration has appealed to the citizens not to leave their homes without essential work during bad weather. Avoid waterlogged areas, maintain distance from electric poles and open wires and rely only on official weather bulletins rather than rumors spread on social media.

The next few days may be challenging

Weather experts say that monsoon activity is likely to continue for now. In such a situation, many parts of Maharashtra, especially Konkan and Mumbai Metropolitan Region, may receive intermittent heavy to extremely heavy rains for the next few days. The administration is continuously monitoring the situation and additional security and relief measures will be implemented if needed.
