A living example of charity and dedication in folk tradition
Raipur News: On the occasion of Chherchera Tihar, which holds a special place in the rich folk-cultural traditions of Chhattisgarh, State Revenue Minister Tank Ram Verma traditionally went from door to door and accepted food donations in village Tarpongi of Dharsiwa development block. On this occasion, an atmosphere of enthusiasm, affection and public joy was seen in the village.
Minister Verma, following the tradition of Chherchera, met the villagers cordially and accepted food donations. He said that Chherchhera Tihar is a festival associated with the soul of Chhattisgarh, which strengthens the spirit of equality, cooperation and charity in the society. This folk festival connects us to our roots and gives the message of social harmony.

Minister Verma said that Chherchhera is not just a festival of food collection, but it is a celebration of folk culture, brotherhood and human sensitivities. The folk traditions of Chhattisgarh are our identity and it is the responsibility of all of us to preserve them. Such festivals unite the society and introduce the new generation to their cultural heritage.
On this occasion, the villagers welcomed the minister with traditional enthusiasm. The splendor of Chherchhera Tihar was being witnessed in the village. Children, youth and elders participated in this folk festival with full enthusiasm. Public representatives and a large number of villagers were present in the program.
It is noteworthy that Chherchhera is a popular traditional folk festival of Chhattisgarh, which is celebrated in the month of Paush (December–January) after paddy harvesting. This festival is deeply connected with the agricultural culture of the state. After harvesting the crop, the farmer expresses gratitude towards God and society.

Chherchhera is basically a festival of charity, cooperation and mutual brotherhood. On this day, village children, youth and elders go from door to door in groups and ask for food or donations while singing folk songs. After reaching the door, “Chherchhera Chherchhera, Mai Kothi ke Dhaan La Hera…” is sung, the meaning of which is that there is plenty of paddy in the mother’s store, donate some of it. The collected material is used in group feasts, helping the needy and social works. This festival increases social sensitivity by erasing the differences between rich-poor and caste-religion and connects the new generation with common culture and folk traditions.
