In a significant step towards improving access to affordable and speedy justice, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has approved the establishment of Permanent Lok Adalats in eight districts of the state. The decision is aimed at providing citizens with a quicker, cost-effective, and amicable mechanism for resolving disputes while reducing the burden on the conventional court system.
With the Chief Minister’s approval, Permanent Lok Adalats will be established in Phalodi, Didwana-Kuchaman, Khairthal-Tijara, Beawar, Barmer, Deeg, Kotputli-Behror, and Salumbar. The initiative is expected to strengthen the state’s legal infrastructure and bring dispute resolution mechanisms closer to people residing in these districts.
Permanent Lok Adalats function as statutory forums for the settlement of disputes related to public utility services through conciliation and, where necessary, adjudication. They are designed to encourage amicable settlements, enabling litigants to resolve disputes without prolonged legal proceedings.
By minimising procedural delays and litigation costs, these forums offer an accessible alternative to conventional courts. Officials said the establishment of these Permanent Lok Adalats will make justice delivery more citizen-centric, particularly for people living in newly created districts and areas where access to judicial institutions has been relatively limited.
The move is also expected to ease the workload of regular courts by promoting the settlement of eligible disputes at the pre-litigation stage. The state government believes that expanding the network of Permanent Lok Adalats will improve the efficiency of the justice delivery system and reinforce public confidence in accessible legal remedies.
The initiative aligns with the government’s broader objective of strengthening public institutions and ensuring that essential services, including legal redressal, are available closer to citizens. With the approval of the proposal, the process of establishing the new Permanent Lok Adalats is expected to begin in the identified districts.
Once operational, these institutions will provide residents with a faster, simpler, and more economical avenue for resolving disputes through mutual consent, saving both time and resources while promoting harmony and reducing avoidable litigation.
