Raja Shivaji vs Chhaava: Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Chhaava’ overshadows Riteish Deshmukh’s ‘Raja Shivaji’, know the complete mathematics of 4 days collection

Bringing the glorious history of the Maratha Empire on screen has always been a big challenge for the makers. Riteish Deshmukh’s ambitious film ‘Raja Shivaji’ has hit the theatres. Ritesh has not only played the lead role in it but has also taken charge of the direction. However, despite the buzz created about the film, the box office figures tell a different story. From the very first day of its release, it was being compared with Vicky Kaushal’s film ‘Chhaava’, but in the first four days of its journey, the pace of ‘Raja Shivaji’ seems to be much slower than ‘Chhaava’.

Pros and cons of the film: What do the audience say?

The grandeur with which Riteish Deshmukh has portrayed the bravery of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the screen is being appreciated a lot. People have liked Ritesh’s acting and direction. However, critics and audiences believe that the ‘pace’ of the film is too slow at places, making the screenplay feel a bit stretched. Despite big names like Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt and Abhishek Bachchan in the star cast of the film, the film did not get the response that was expected in the Hindi belt.

Raja Shivaji’s box office collection: still far away from the budget

According to Sacnilk report, ‘Raja Shivaji’ has made a business of only Rs 5.60 crore on the fourth day of its release. The film had a good start with 11.35 crores on the first day, but as the week days started, the earning graph started falling down.

  • Total Indian Net Collection: ₹39.50 crore (4 days)

  • Gross Collection: ₹46.95 crore

  • Budget: ₹100 crore

To get the tag of ‘Hit’ the film will have to cross its cost i.e. Rs 100 crore mark. Considering the pace at which the collections are increasing, this journey is looking quite difficult, especially the lukewarm performance of the film in the Hindi market is a matter of concern for the makers.

How did ‘Chaava’ create history?

When we compare ‘Chhaava’ with ‘Raja Shivaji’, there is a world of difference. The budget of Vicky Kaushal starrer ‘Chhaava’ was Rs 130 crore, which the film recovered from the Indian box office (Net Collection) in just four days.

  • First day: ₹31 crore

  • Second day: ₹37 crore

  • Day 3: ₹48.50 crore

  • Fourth day: ₹24 crore

‘Chhaava’ had touched the worldwide figure of Rs 100 crore in the first two days itself. The perfect casting and tremendous action of that film played a big role in drawing the audience to the theatres.

Will the pace of ‘Raja Shivaji’ increase in the coming weekend?

Film experts believe that the coming weekend is the last chance for ‘Raja Shivaji’. If there is no big jump in the film’s earnings on Saturday and Sunday, then joining the Rs 100 crore club may remain a dream for it. The coming few days will decide how much love this hard work of Ritesh Deshmukh gets from the audience.
