Now names like Totaram, Chintu-Billu will not work, Rajasthan government will make changes, submitted a list of 2000 names
If the names of you or those you know are only Chintu, Pintu or Billu or similar strange things and live in Rajasthan, then your names will change. Actually, the School Education Department in Rajasthan is going to start a unique and sensitive initiative, whose name is ‘Sarthak Naam Abhiyan’. Under this scheme, the names of those students will be changed, which for some reason seem meaningless, strange or insulting. This campaign has been announced by State Education Minister Madan Dilawar.
Why was this step necessary?
According to the Education Minister, many times parents unknowingly give such names to their children, which cause discomfort for them when they grow up. For example, some names sound funny or insulting, which can develop inferiority complex in children. The aim of this initiative is to increase the self-confidence of children and make them socially comfortable.
Changes will be made with the consent of parents
No student’s name will be forcibly changed in this campaign. The school administration will first talk to the parents and only after their consent the process of name change will be taken forward. It will be ensured that the new name is positive, respectful and meaningful.
Ready list of new names
The education department has prepared a list of 2 to 3 thousand meaningful names under this scheme. For students whose name is agreed upon, a suitable name will be selected from this list. This will make the process of name selection easy and organized.
Focus also on surname and social respect
An important aspect of this campaign is that there are some surnames or caste identities which are not considered respectable in the society. There is a plan to make changes in such cases also and provide respectable alternatives. The aim is that no child should face embarrassment because of his name or surname.
Strict action against drug addicts
With this initiative, the Education Department has decided to take another big step. A list will be made of those employees associated with the schools and education department of the state, who are indulging in habits like drug addiction, smoking or gutkha. Its purpose is to get rid of these habits and make the school environment healthy, so that children do not have a negative impact.
Steps towards sensitivity and reform
‘Sarthak Name Campaign’ is not just an initiative to change the name, but an important effort towards the mental and social development of children. This campaign reflects a new thinking towards promoting sensitivity, respect and positive environment in the education system.
