Rajgir set to host Men’s Hockey Asia Cup 2025
Rajgir, Bihar: The Rajgir Hockey Stadium situated in the historic district of Nalanda will be hosting the 2025 Men’s Asia Cup after the successful completion of the 2024 Women’s Asian Champions Trophy.
Ravindran Sankaran, Director General and CEO of Bihar State Sports Authority confirmed the same to Read after the presentation ceremony of the Women’s ACT 2024.
Talking about the development, Ravindran told Read,” After looking at the success and support of the fans during this tournament, I am very happy to tell you that Rajgir will host the men’s edition of the 2025 Asia Cup.”
The 2025 Asia Cup will offer one quota for the 2026 Hockey World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands. The tournament will bring all the best teams of the continent together including the arch-rivals Pakistan.
Asia Cup is a tournament that features eight teams divided into two pools with the top two teams entering the knockout stage.
“The dates of the tournament will be 27th August 2025 to 07th September 2025. We are hoping to see more crowd in the tournament,” added Ravindran.
While the tournament will be more boost for the stadium, the challenge of not having world-class accommodation and practice turf is something that needs to be addressed.
“We are aware of the challenges we faced this time and we will address them. The challenge of accommodation will be sorted as the university infrastructure becomes fully operational. The other challenge of practice turf will be solved as we will put more turfs,” the DG of BSSA said.
“Apart from these changes, we plan to put in temporary stands that can house more fans and it can be mantled and dismantled,” Ravindran added further.
The hockey stadium is part of the larger state-of-the-art Sports University which will cater to 25 different sports – including hockey, football, kabaddi, volleyball, swimming, and wrestling, among others, once completed.
