What did Congress say?
As soon as Lutyens’ statue was removed, Congress leader Gurdeep Singh Sappal posted the photo of President Draupadi Murmu’s unveiling on Instagram and wrote, ‘Instead of Lutyens, Raja ji’s statue is in a building built by Lutyens.’ He also wrote a quote in English at the end.

Who was Edwin Lutyens?
Lutyens was a famous architect, known for his design of Delhi and Rashtrapati Bhavan (the then Viceroy’s House). He is famous all over the world due to his architecture, the mixture of British and Indian art is clearly visible in his architecture. The British government had entrusted him with the responsibility of building Delhi and many other cities.
BJP counterattacked
Seizing on this statement of Congress, BJP leader Amit Malviya made a post on social media (X), in which he described Sappal’s mentality as colonial, and also wrote that ‘This is not the first time that Congress has targeted the tribal President, and unfortunately, it cannot be the last time’.
How Congress got surrounded on this issue
In fact, it has been seen that whenever Congress makes any statement, BJP prepares a counter to it. But this time the most interesting aspect was that senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor praised this decision of BJP.

Shashi Tharoor posted on social media (X) and wrote that “I am very happy to see that Rajaji has been honored with a statue in Rashtrapati Bhavan. Before becoming a republic, he was the first Indian occupant of the Rashtrapati Bhavan as the only Indian Governor-General of India, and he handed over his post to the new President.
