New Delhi: A fortnight has passed by since D Gukesh scripted history in Singapore by becoming the youngest world chess champion. Gukesh edged past defending champion Ding Liren of China in the decisive 14th game of the 2024 FIDE World Championship. The Indian grandmaster has recieved overwhelming support and love from Indian fans and even celebrities.
The latest celebrity to shower his love and blessings on Gukesh is none other than mega-star Rajinikanth, whom he met in Chennai on Thursday.
Actor, playback singer, lyricist, film producer and television presenter, Sivakarthikeyan Doss also met with the chess sensation, who has taken Indian sports by storm courtesy of his amazing feat.
Gukesh meets Rajinikanth
Gukesh shared the post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday morning and shared the pictures from his meeting with superstar Rajinikanth. The legendary actor looked classy in a black kurta and a grey lungi as he posed for snaps with Gukesh and his parents. The chess icon’s father’s name is also Rajinikanth while his mother and microbiologist Padmavathi was also present at the meeting.
Rajinikanth also known as ‘Thalaivar’ of Tamil cinema gifted Gukesh a shawl and Paramahansa Yogananda’s 1946 spiritual classic Autobiography of a Yogi to Gukesh.

Gukesh recieved a whopping Rs 5 crore award from the Tamil Nadu government last week. The Indian superstar was felicitated at a grand function and was awarded a cheque for Rs 5 crore by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday. The event titled ’18th @ 18′ to commemorate the 18-year-old becoming the 18th World champion grabbed headlines across the country.
Viswanathan Anand, India’s first Grandmaster and five-time champion, was also present at the event. Anand hailed the state government for the immense support to chess players across Tamil Nadu.
