Chennai: Rajinikanth on Saturday shared a major update on his much-awaited film Jailer 2, confirming that the project is in its final stages of production.
Speaking to reporters at the airport in Chennai, the superstar said, “The film is in its finishing stage. The production house will announce its date of release,” signalling that fans may not have to wait long for an official release announcement.
Sequel to a blockbuster hit
Jailer 2 is the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer, which emerged as one of the biggest commercial successes in Indian cinema.
The first instalment reportedly grossed over ₹650 crore worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing films of Rajinikanth’s career. It also recorded a massive opening, with overseas distributor Ayngaran International confirming a first-day collection of ₹33 crore.
The sequel has generated significant buzz, with expectations riding high for another action-packed entertainer.
Production progress and filming details
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the film began shooting in Chennai after the makers officially launched production on March 10 last year.
The teaser released earlier added to the anticipation, showcasing a blend of high-octane action and humour, a formula that worked well for the first film.
