According to court records, the actor had taken a loan of around Rs 5 crore for the production of his film. The loan could not be repaid on time due to the film’s box office failure, following which the lender initiated legal action. Several hearings were held in the case over the years, in which the court repeatedly directed to pay the dues and ensure compliance with the orders. The court took a strict stance when payment was not made within the stipulated time. In the year 2018, Rajpal Yadav was sentenced for disobeying court orders and was sent to Tihar Jail. This incident was shocking to the film industry considering his popularity as a comic actor. In the same case, the court had ordered him to surrender again in Tihar Jail on 6 February 2026.

What is the whole matter?
Actor Rajpal Yadav’s legal troubles are believed to have started from the year 2010. At the same time, he had taken a loan of about Rs 5 crore from Delhi-based company Murali Projects Private Limited for the production of his first directorial film ‘Aata Pata Lapata’ (2012). But the film did not perform as expected at the box office, causing a major financial setback. The failure of the film had a direct impact on his ability to repay the loan and from here the matter gradually turned into a legal dispute. It is said that seven checks given to the complainant bounced, after which the matter reached the court. In April 2018, a magistrate court convicted Rajpal Yadav and his wife Radha Yadav under section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act and sentenced them to six months of simple imprisonment. Later in early 2019, the Sessions Court also upheld this decision, further increasing the actor’s legal troubles. After this, Rajpal Yadav filed a revision petition in the Delhi High Court, but he could get only limited relief from there. During this period, the interest also increased significantly and the cost of the loan increased to Rs 9 crore.
