Rajyasabha Election : Rajya Sabha election in Bihar is full of politics; Will Tejashwi Yadav get a chance to become an MP?

Rajyasabha Election 2026 : Bihar : The battle for Rajya Sabha elections has started in various states. Politics has erupted in five seats in Bihar along with Maharashtra. Rajya Sabha elections will be held for a total of five seats in Bihar and ten seats in Maharashtra. Ever since the Election Commission announced the election, the political equations are visible. Everyone is curious about who will get a chance in five seats in Bihar. Elections have also been held recently in Bihar. Therefore, curiosity has arisen as to who will get the opportunity. The name of Tejashwi Yadav is being discussed at the forefront of this.

NDA is likely to win four seats in the elections for the five Rajya Sabha seats in Bihar. However, if the opposition forms a united front, it can win one more seat. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has started strategizing for the fifth seat, but Union Minister Chirag Paswan has made the contest interesting by claiming that the NDA will win all five seats. What strategy will RJD use to win despite being numerically weak due to this? This discussion has started in the politics of Bihar.

The current state of the Legislative Assembly has completely changed the math of the Rajya Sabha elections. Out of the five seats being contested, two seats belong to the RJD whose term is ending. The party is not in a position to win a single seat on its own, yet it has decided to go all out. In the party meeting, it was decided that RJD will contest the elections. Former Union Minister Kanti Singh also confirmed this.

On the other hand, the Lok Jan Shakti Party (Ram Vilas) legislature party met in Patna under the chairmanship of Chirag Paswan, where all 19 MLAs promised to ensure the victory of the NDA candidate. Earlier, Janata Dal (United) also claimed victory in all the five seats. It is clear that the NDA is aiming for a clean sweep, while the opposition is planning a political maneuver to win at least one seat.

A game of numbers for fifth place

In the 243-member Bihar Assembly, the NDA has 202 MLAs, while the Grand Alliance has only 35 MLAs. The support of 41 MLAs is required to win a Rajya Sabha seat. According to this calculation, NDA can easily win four seats with 164 votes. This leaves them with 38 MLAs and will need three additional votes for the fifth seat. Meanwhile, Mahagathbandhan has 35 MLAs, which means it will need the support of six more MLAs for one seat. If he gets the support of six MLAs from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and one MLA from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), the contest could be tied.

What is RJD’s strategy?

RJD has 25 MLAs. Despite the support of Congress and Left parties, the total number is 35, which is short of the required number. However, the party has announced to contest the elections. AIMIM state president Akhtarul Iman met Tejashwi Yadav and announced his candidature for the Rajya Sabha seat. In the RJD parliamentary party meeting, Tejashwi Yadav was given the right to choose the opposition candidate. There is talk that Tejashwi Yadav himself may contest the Rajya Sabha elections. Although they have not taken a final decision yet, the situation will be clarified only after discussions with allies. It is believed that opposition unity could be strengthened if Tejashwi contests the elections himself.

The battle for fifth place

The race for the fifth spot is shaping up to be interesting. Chirag Paswan has claimed victory for NDA. If the NDA fields a candidate for the fifth seat, they will need three additional votes. To achieve this, the BJP and the JDU will have to retain the support of their allies, such as the parties of Jitan Ram Manjhi and Upendra Kushwaha.
