Indian shuttlers had a brilliant day at the Hylo Open Super 300 tournament winning most of the round of 16 games.
The biggest surprise of the day came as young Indian shuttler Rakshitha Ramraj stunned second-seeded Kirsty Gilmour to move to the quarter-finals.
Malvika Bansod, Ayush Shetty, and Sathish Kumar Karunakaran also woh their respective matches.
Rakshitha played a dominating game against second-seeded and world number 25 Gilmour to defeat her in 35 minutes.
The first game started evenly and both players were tied at 4-4 but then Rakshitha accelerated with some good strokeplay and took a lead of 12-6.
There was no looking back for the youngster afterwards and won the first game 21-14.
In the second game, Rakshitha was more confident and took an early lead of 9-2.
There was no coming back for Gilmour as the young Indian shuttler closed the game at 21-12 registering a famous win.
Sixth-seeded Indian shuttler Malvika had a brilliant game and gave no chance to Iris Andersen of Denmark.
Malvika won 21-13, 21-16 in straight games.
In the men’s singles, Ayush Shetty had a dominating match against Italy’s Giovanni Toti defeating him in straight games.
Shetty took only 33 minutes as he decimated the Italian 21-13, 21-9 with his authoritative strokeplay and powerful smashes.
In the other men’s singles game, Sathish moved to the quarter-finals with a convincing win over Harry Huang of England.
The seventh seed Indian won in straight games with scores of 21-12, 21-15.
With big names sitting out of this tournament, this is a good chance for the young Indian shuttlers to make a mark on the BWF World Circuit.
