New Delhi, 19 July. Nirmohi Akhara has once again approached the Supreme Court regarding the alleged donation embezzlement case related to Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple of Ayodhya and the temple management. The Akhara has demanded reconstitution of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, independent forensic audit of the financial transactions of the Trust and issuance of necessary directions from the court on various issues related to the temple management.
Hearing is proposed on July 20
The petition also mentions the demand for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigation into matters related to alleged embezzlement of donations and temple management. Hearing on some petitions filed in this regard is proposed on July 20.
Questions raised on formation and operation of trust
Nirmohi Akhara says that in the year 2019, the Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court, while giving its verdict on the Ayodhya land dispute, had directed the Central Government to form a trust for the construction of Ram Temple. The Akhara alleges that the Trust was not formed and operated in accordance with the spirit of the decision. The petition demands that the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust be reorganized as a public trust and an independent forensic audit of all its financial and property related transactions be conducted, so that any possible irregularities can be impartially investigated.
There is also mention of alleged embezzlement of donations and valuables.
The Akhara has also cited recent allegations of alleged embezzlement of donations and valuables from devotees. According to the petition, the state government has constituted a SIT to investigate these allegations, hence a comprehensive investigation of the financial records and properties of the trust should also be conducted.
Objection to representation and selection of Mahant
Nirmohi Akhara has also raised questions regarding its representation in the Trust. He says that the Akhara did not get representation in accordance with the spirit of the Supreme Court’s decision. Besides, objection has also been raised on the nomination of Mahant Dinendra Das, saying that his selection was not done as per the prescribed procedure.
Issue also raised regarding installation of statue
In the petition, questions have also been raised on the sanctity of the new idol in the sanctum sanctorum. The Akhara says that this has affected the status of the original dispute. Therefore, instructions should be given to reinstall the original idols installed in the sanctum sanctorum between 1950 and 1982.
The 2019 decision was not challenged
Nirmohi Akhara has clarified that its petition does not challenge the historic 2019 decision of the Supreme Court. Its purpose is only to obtain necessary directions from the Court on issues related to effective implementation of the judgment, accountability of the Trust, transparency and temple management.
