Ram temple offering theft case: Supreme Court asks for investigation report from SIT, hearing to be held on July 20
New Delhi, 13 July. The Supreme Court has asked the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to submit a status report in the case of theft of offerings from Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya. A bench headed by Chief Justice (CJI) Surya Kant has also issued a notice to Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. Now the next hearing of this case will be on July 20.
During the hearing in the apex court, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing Uttar Pradesh and the Central government, said that he would assist the court in the case. However, the four petitions that were listed for hearing before the bench were not heard further. The court agreed that it would be right to see the status report of the SIT before considering the petitions. The court has also sought information about the members of the SIT.

The bench of three judges of the Supreme Court that heard the case included Chief Justice Surya Kant, apart from Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana. The four petitions which were listed for hearing have been filed by lawyer Narendra Kumar Goswami, lawyer Ajay Kumar Rai, RJD MP Sudhakar Singh and Hindu Dharma Parishad. In these petitions, there has been a demand to hand over the investigation to CBI and formation of a special SIT.
Demand to make donation information public live on official website
Along with this, a demand has also been made to form an expert committee to review various issues related to the management of donations in the temple. The petitioners have also demanded a forensic audit of the trust by an independent agency and the information about donations received by the temple should be made public live on the official website.
Demand for intervention from Supreme Court
The petitioners have sought intervention from the Supreme Court, terming it a matter related to the faith of crores of devotees. A petition has sought to declare all offerings made by devotees as property of the sacred trust. In the petition, the court has been requested to give appropriate orders to ensure transparent and trustworthy management of the trust.
