Ramayana sets record with over 10,000 global crew members

Mumbai: Producer Namit Malhotra’s ambitious adaptation of the epic Ramayana is emerging as one of the most discussed projects in Indian cinema, with the makers announcing that the film has brought together more than 10,000 crew members from around the world.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the large-scale mythological project is being developed as a two-part cinematic event aimed at combining traditional Indian storytelling with international filmmaking technology and visual effects.

Massive production scale becomes major highlight

The makers stated that the film has assembled the largest workforce ever involved in an Indian movie production.

The reported team includes specialists from multiple departments such as production design, visual effects, action choreography, costume design and technical operations.

Industry observers believe the scale of the project places it among the most ambitious productions attempted in Indian cinema.

Large-scale set construction and extensive world-building efforts are also reportedly underway as part of the film’s development process.

International collaboration for visual effects

The film is being produced by Prime Focus Studios in association with DNEG and Monster Mind Creations.

DNEG, an Oscar-winning visual effects company, has previously contributed to several internationally recognised productions and is expected to play a significant role in shaping the film’s visual experience.

The collaboration is expected to help create large-scale visual environments and bring mythological storytelling to the screen using advanced production technologies.

The involvement of global technicians and visual effects experts has also generated interest among film followers.

Film planned as two-part global release

According to the makers, Ramayana is being designed as a worldwide cinematic event rather than a conventional film release.

The film is expected to receive a global IMAX release, indicating the producers’ intention to position it for an international audience.

The two-part release schedule announced by the production team includes:

  • Part 1: Diwali 2026
  • Part 2: Diwali 2027

The long-term release plan reflects the scale and complexity involved in the project.

Expectations continue to rise

Over the years, Indian cinema has produced several large-scale historical and mythological films. However, Ramayana is being positioned as a project that could potentially redefine how mythological narratives are presented to contemporary audiences.

Apart from the production scale, interest surrounding the film has also grown because of discussions around casting choices, visual presentation and storytelling style.

As production continues, the project is already attracting considerable attention from industry circles and audiences awaiting one of the biggest mythological adaptations attempted in Indian cinema.
