Ramit Tandon enters top 30 of PSA Squash Tour

Indian squash player Ramit Tandon rose to a career-high world ranking of 30 on Monday.

By entering the top 30 of the PSA Squash Tour, the 32-year-old became the highest-ranked Indian man.

Ramit has accumulated a total of 281 and gained two places.

A 2018 Asian Games bronze medallist, Ramit has benefitted from his stonishing 3-1 win over World No. 12 Victor Crouin, then ranked 11th, at the El Gouna International Open in Egypt in April.

In the Squash World Championships in May, Ramit started his campaign on a winning note in Cairo, Egypt.

Ramit, who gained a direct entry into the tournament, registered a comfortable win over World Number 57 Faraz Khan of the United States 11-1 11-3 11-3 in the first round.

However, Ramit, the lone Indian in the fray, was forced to retire due to an injury in his second-round match against world No. 7 Mohamed ElShorbagy at the Squash World Championships in Cairo, Egypt.

For Ramit, the ‘goal is to win a lot of medals for the country at major sporting events’. “But more importantly, to have a good time, make memories, and live the experience. So I kind of want to live through these moments as I do it,” Ramit told Read in a recent interview.

The next highest-ranked Indian men’s player is Velvan Senthilkumar, who went down a place to be ranked 52nd, while Abhay Singh is ranked 59th. In the women’s category, Anahat Singh has gone down two places. She is India’s highest-ranked player at 103rd.

Ramit’s recent performance, however, has not been impressive as he lost to Greg Lobban in the first round of the British Open and Mohamed Elshorbagy in the third round of the Egyptian Open.

Ramit’s next event is Qatar Classic where he takes on Omar Mosaad in the first round.
