Mumbai: Ranbir Kapoor’s uncle, actor-filmmaker Kunal Kapoor recently stirred a debate over food preferences, labelling vegetarians as ‘racist’.
Kunal, son of late Shashi Kapoor, admitted in a recent conversation with Pooja Bhatt on her podcast that he looks at vegetarians “with disdain.”
Explaining his logic, Kunal said that when he has vegetarian guests at home, he offers them vegetarian food, but when he visits vegetarians, he is denied non-vegetarian dishes, which he finds unfair.
“I think vegetarians are racist,” said Kunal.
Host Pooja laughed and asked, “So, I’m a racist?”
Kunal replied, “Ya, you are because you deny me being a non-vegetarian. On my table, you’ll have vegetarian food and non-vegetarian food. But when I go to a vegetarian house, he won’t give me non-vegetarian food. But in my house, I’ll treat him. I’ll give him veg and non-veg food.”
Kunal’s comments went viral in no time. His nephew Ranbir recently faced backlash by having non-vegetarian food in the Netflix documentary ‘Dining with the Kapoors’, when reports claimed that he had quit non-veg food for his character Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’.
One user commented, “Ranbir Kapoor’s PR team claimed he gave up non vegetarian food out of respect for playing Lord Ram in the Ramayana movie but he is seen enjoying fish curry, mutton, and paya with his family. Ranbir Kapoor has the most effective PR in Bollywood.”
Ranbir Kapoor PR lied that he avoided all kinds of meat while Filming Ramayana but in Dining with the Kapoors, we see all that claim being nothing but a lie.

Kunal made his debut in 1972 with ‘Siddhartha’. After staying away from Bollywood to focus on ad filmmaking, Kunal returned to acting with ‘Singh Is Bliing’ (2015).
He was last seen in ‘Panipat’ (2019).
