Kunal Kapoor, son of legendary Shashi Kapoor and uncle to Ranbir, has caused a stir with his recent comments about vegetarians.
In an interview with actress Pooja Bhatt, the filmmaker didn’t hold back, stating, “I think vegetarians are racist.” Pooja laughed and asked, “So, I’m a racist?”
However, the director stuck to his statement, saying that as a non-vegetarian, he sometimes feels left out.
He said, while he gives guests both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options at home, he doesn’t receive the same welcome when visiting vegetarian households, which he finds unfair.
However, his remark about vegetarians being “racist” also caught attention online. Social media users quickly reacted.
One wrote, “Ok Karen, calm down… the world doesn’t revolve around your needs,” while another dragged the Kapoor family, saying, “The entire family is so screwed up in the head!”
Some fans, however, came to Kunal’s rescue. One pointed out, “Non-veg people often provide vegetarian options to guests, but vegetarian homes rarely offer non-veg options in return. He’s just pointing that out.” Another added simply, “He’s clearly joking.”
The timing of the controversy added fuel to the fire, coming right after Ranbir, who faced scrutiny for reportedly eating non veg food on Netflix’s Dining With The Kapoors.
After stepping away from Bollywood to focus on ad films, Kunal made a comeback with Singh Is Bliing (2015) and was last seen in Panipat (2019).
