Ranji match stopped for 15 minutes, umpire banned for one match

Delhi: Maharashtra batsman Ankit Bawne has been banned for one match for protesting against the umpire's decision. The ban applied to the sixth round of Ranji Trophy matches starting on Thursday, and he missed the Group A match against Baroda in Nashik. This decision was informed to the team management just before the start of the match.

Bavane did not leave the field

Bawne made the decision regarding his dismissal in the match against Services in the fifth round of Ranji Trophy. He felt that the ball had touched the ground before reaching Shubham Rohilla's hands. The same was visible in the replays, but since the match was only on streaming and not shown on television, Bawne was not able to get a review. Let us tell you that DRS (Decision Review System) is not available in such Ranji Trophy matches which are not shown on TV.

After this dispute, Maharashtra captain Bawne refused to leave the field, due to which the game was stopped for about 15 minutes. After this, the game was able to resume due to the intervention of match referee Amit Sharma and Maharashtra coach Sulakshan Kulkarni.

After this incident, Kulkarni had said that if players get fined and punished for protesting decisions, then why are umpires also not evaluated? He also asked how such umpires who make wrong decisions can continue umpiring when it affects the game.
