Jammu and Kashmir registered a historic victory in the final of Ranji Trophy and won the title for the first time. Even though the match was a draw in the five-day match played against Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir was declared the winner on the basis of the lead in the first innings. With this victory, the team wrote a new chapter in 66 years of Ranji history.

Let us tell you, the biggest hero of this historic victory was fast bowler Aaqib Nabi. He broke the back of Karnataka by taking 5 wickets in the final match. Thanks to his lethal bowling, Karnataka’s first innings was reduced to just 293 runs. Nabi’s performance was excellent throughout the season and he took a total of 60 wickets. Due to this performance, he was also selected as ‘Player of the Tournament’.

Let us tell you, Jammu and Kashmir batted brilliantly and scored 584 runs in the first innings. Shubham Pundir played a brilliant century inning of 121 runs. Captain Paras Dogra scored 70 runs, while Abdul Samad (61), Kanhaiya Wadhawan (70) and Sahil Lotra (72) made important contributions. The collective batting of the team put pressure on Karnataka.

Mayank Agarwal played a brilliant inning of 160 runs for Karnataka, but he did not get support from other batsmen. The entire team was bundled out for 293 runs, giving Jammu and Kashmir a big lead in the first innings.

In the second innings also, Jammu and Kashmir scored 342 runs at the loss of 4 wickets. Kamran Iqbal and Sahil Lotra strengthened the team’s position by scoring centuries. Ultimately the match was a draw, but Jammu and Kashmir was declared champion on the basis of first innings lead.
