What is FWICE? Who banned Ranveer Singh

Once again a big controversy has erupted in Bollywood. Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has issued a non-cooperation order against superstar Ranveer Singh. This means that now Bollywood’s technicians, staff, spot boys and other workers will not work with Ranveer Singh. This decision is not limited to films only, but will also apply to advertisements and other projects. The great thing is that there are a total of 34 such federations which are managed by FWICE. This federation is also called mother body because about 4 to 5 lakh people are associated with it. It is considered a powerful federation. In which Director-Producer, Actors, Junior Artists Association are associated.

What is FWICE?

The full name of FWICE is Federation of Western India Cine Employees. In Hindi it is called Western India Cine Employees Federation. This is the largest film workers union of Mumbai, which has been working since 1956. But it was registered in 1958. After being registered, this association emerged as the largest. This federation fights for the safety of all small and big employees of the film and TV industry. There is no discrimination of any kind in politics, religion or caste. This union fights for the rights of workers. Like fair salary, working hours, overtime payment, safety and good working conditions. If any production house exploits workers, does not pay them or misbehaves, then FWICE takes immediate action. At the time of Covid, Salman Khan had also given help of Rs 12 crore to this organization. Big celebs support FWICE. 90 percent people are associated with different federations of FWICE. Its strength can be gauged from the fact that if the association stops its members from working, the shooting of many films may come to a halt from the next day.

What is the whole controversy?

In December 2025, Ranveer Singh suddenly withdrew his name from the film ‘Don 3’. He had signed the contract to work in this film about two years ago. He took this decision just three weeks before the shooting started. Giving his reason, Ranveer said that there have been a lot of changes in the script of the film, hence he no longer wants to do this film. This decision came a few days after the tremendous success of his film ‘Dhurandhar’. ‘Dhurandhar’ had earned more than Rs 3000 crore worldwide. But Farhan Akhtar and his company Excel Entertainment suffered huge losses. Farhan and Ritesh Sidhwani say that because of Ranveer they had spent a lot of money in pre-production. Location booking, hotel booking, preparations for foreign travel, arrangements for more than 200 staff, everything was done. Where earlier the loss was only Rs 40 crore, now the total loss has reached Rs 45 crore. Excel Entertainment asked Ranveer Singh to compensate this money. He was given two options, either do the film or pay Rs 40-45 crore from his own pocket. But Ranveer was not ready for both the things. Many attempts were made for mediation and reconciliation, but no result was achieved. Ultimately FWICE had to enter the field.

Strict decision of FWICE

FWICE Chief Advisor Ashok Pandit and General Secretary Ashok Dubey clearly said that now no working employee will work with Ranveer Singh. Ashok Pandit said, ‘This is not a personal matter. We fully respect the stardom of Ranveer Singh. He has brought the audience back to theaters with films like ‘Dhurandhar’. But no work can be done by remaining isolated from the industry. He further said that in future, if any producer removes a director or technician at the last moment, then FWICE will take the same strict action. The objective of the organization is to maintain a balance between manufacturers and workers.

Many stars have been banned before too

FWICE has taken such decisions many times before. After the Pahalgam attack, it had banned Pakistani artists. Many Pakistani stars like Fahwad Khan, Mahira Khan, Hania Aamir were banned from working and releasing films in India. Among Indian artists, FWICE had also issued a non-cooperation order against Diljit Dosanjh. Despite the terrorist incident like Pahalgam, Diljit shot and promoted the Punjabi film ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. After this FWICE instructed 5 lakh members not to work with Diljit. Later, on the request of Bhushan Kumar of T-Series, he was allowed to complete the shooting of ‘Border 2’, but the order of non-cooperation was in force and will continue in future also. Similarly, singer Mika Singh was banned for some time for performing at a wedding in Pakistan after the Uri attack in 2019. Later, the ban was lifted after Mika apologized several times.

Now Ranveer’s fans are worried

After the ban on Ranveer Singh, millions of his fans are worried. It is not yet clear what impact it will have on his upcoming films ‘Pralaya’, ‘Baiju Bawra’ and other projects. So now the question is that even after the non-cooperation order was imposed on Diljit, he completed his two projects under all circumstances. Diljit received appreciation from the industry even before and after ‘Border 2’ became a hit. So will Ranveer also be able to complete his upcoming projects like Diljit?
