High Court reprimands Ranveer Singh in ‘Kantara’ mimicry case, says- ‘Superstar is not above the law…’

Ranveer Singh Kantara Mimicry Case: Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh is in legal trouble due to the controversy related to the film ‘Kantara’ and allegations of hurting religious sentiments. Karnataka High Court, while hearing this case, has strongly reprimanded the actor. The court said in clear words that no superstar is above the law. Being an actor who has a deep impact on the society, Ranveer should have been more responsible.

It was difficult to copy ‘Panjurli Daiva’

This whole controversy started when Ranveer Singh copied the sacred scene of ‘Panjurli Daiva’ from the film ‘Kantara’ during an event and allegedly used the word female ghost for the goddess. This comment hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindu community, resulting in an FIR being filed against him. Ranveer Singh has approached the Karnataka High Court demanding cancellation of this FIR.

Court gave advice to Ranveer Singh

During the hearing before the bench of Justice M. Nagaprasanna, Ranveer Singh’s lawyer Sajan Poovayya admitted that the actor’s statement was ‘reckless’, but his intention was not to hurt anyone but to praise the film. However, the judge did not seem completely satisfied with this argument. The court said that you cannot call any deity a ‘ghost’ without doing research. The judge commented, “The Internet never forgets anything. You should control yourself while going on stage and doing such things.”

There is no right to play with religious dignity…

During the hearing, the court also said that the scene shown in ‘Kantara’ is a sacred part of the culture and faith of that region. It was fine to praise the film, but copying it and using derogatory words is the height of negligence. The judge said in a strict tone that no one can be given the right to play with the religious dignity of others under the guise of talent or comedy show.

Ranveer Singh got relief from High Court

At present, the High Court has given immediate relief to Ranveer Singh and directed the state government not to take any punitive or harsh action against him till Monday. However, the court has ordered Ranveer Singh to fully cooperate in the investigation and has fixed the next hearing of the case at 4 pm on Monday. The actor’s lawyer has bowed his head before the court and assured that he is ready to take every possible step to rectify his negligence.
