Ranveer Singh’s smoking controversial, caught in protest from Sikh organizations before the release of ‘Dhurandhar 2’

Mumbai: Ranveer Singh’s upcoming film ‘Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge’ It got embroiled in a big controversy before its release. A legal notice has been sent to the makers of the film accusing them of hurting the religious sentiments of the Sikh community. The notice claims that Ranveer Singh’s Sikh character is shown smoking a cigarette in the film, which is against the traditions and principles of Sikhism.

The film is directed by Aditya Dhar, and is being presented as a spy-action thriller. The film stars Ranveer Singh in the lead role, while other lead actors include Akshay Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan and Arjun Rampal. But objections have been raised over the promotional material and some scenes showing a Sikh character smoking.

The party that issued the notice has demanded that the cigarette smoking scenes be immediately removed from the film, and such visuals should also be deleted from posters and trailers. Along with this, a public apology has also been demanded from the producers.

Appeal to remove ‘objectionable poster’

The notice warned that if these demands were not met within the stipulated time, legal action would be taken. In some reports, organizations like Shiromani Akali Dal have also appealed to remove or correct the ‘objectionable poster’. This controversy comes just before the release of the film, when the re-release of the first part is also happening and the trailer of the sequel is creating excitement among the audience.

Such issues often come up in Bollywood, where controversy arises due to religious sensitivity. Now it remains to be seen how the filmmakers resolve this situation—will they make changes to the film or opt for the legal process. Fans of the film have given mixed reactions to it. ‘Dhurandhar 2’ is scheduled to release on March 19 and apart from Hindi, it will also be released in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam languages.
