Rapper Baby Jean is David John in Khalid Rahman’s Alappuzha Gymkhana
On Sunday, the makers of Khalid Rahman’s upcoming boxing-based sports comedy Alappuzha Gymkhana unveiled the character poster of rapper Baby Jean. The film introduces the actor as David John, a young athlete captured in a dynamic pose, dressed in a black jersey, shorts, and white sneakers. The caption accompanying the social media post read, “The backbone of the squad and zero tolerance for BS—that’s David John.” The film marks the acting debut of the Malappuram-based rapper, who was initially cast as the antagonist character Beera in last year’s hit actioner Rifle Clubdirected by Aashiq Abu. However, due to scheduling conflicts with Khalid’s film, the role was later taken up by Big Dawgs-fame rapper Hanumankind.
Earlier character posters of Alappuzha Gymkhana introduced Lukman Avaran as Antony Joshua, Falimy-fame Sandeep Pradeep as Shifas Ahammed, and Franco Francis as Shifas Ali. The film is headlined by Naslen, with Ganapathi and Anagha Ravi also playing pivotal roles. Its cast further includes Shiva Hariharan, Shon Joy, Karthik, Nanda Nishanth, and Noila Francy in prominent roles.
Alappuzha Gymkhana is produced by Khalid, Jobin George, Sameer Karat, and Subeesh Kannachery under the banners of Plan B Motion Pictures and Reelistic Studios. The film will be distributed by Central Pictures and Truth Global Films. On the technical front, it reunites Khalid with cinematographer Jimshi Khalid and composer Vishnu Vijay, along with the late editor Nishadh Yusuf, all of whom previously collaborated on the blockbuster Thallumaala (2022).
