Rattlesnake Cocktail Recipe

A bold twist on the classic Whiskey Sour, the Rattlesnake Cocktail combines rye whiskey, citrus, and a touch of absinthe for a drink that’s sharp, smooth, and slightly mysterious. Its silky texture and complex flavor give it that “dangerous” reputation.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz rye whiskey

  • 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice

  • 1/2 oz simple syrup

  • 1 egg white (for foam and texture)

  • 1–2 dashes absinthe

  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Dry shake first
Add rye whiskey, lemon juice, simple syrup, egg white, and absinthe into a shaker without ice. Shake vigorously for about 15–20 seconds to create a rich foam.

  2. Shake with ice
Add ice to the shaker and shake again for another 15–20 seconds until well chilled.

  3. Strain and serve
Double strain into a chilled coupe or cocktail glass to achieve a smooth, silky finish.

Tips

  • Use fresh lemon juice for the best flavor.

  • If you prefer a stronger herbal note, slightly increase the absinthe—but don’t overdo it.

  • For safety, use pasteurized egg whites if you’re concerned about raw eggs.

Flavor Profile

The Rattlesnake Cocktail delivers a perfect balance of tangy citrus, subtle sweetness, and herbal complexity, with a creamy foam on top that makes every sip smooth and refined.

Serving Suggestion

Serve chilled, without ice, and enjoy it as a sophisticated evening drink or a conversation-starting cocktail at gatherings.
