Ravi Mohan’s ‘Karathey Babu’ locks August 28 release : Political thriller to clash with Yash’s ‘Toxic’

Ravi Mohan is gearing up for the release of his next big-screen venture, Karathey Babu. The makers have officially announced that the political thriller will hit theatres worldwide on August 28, 2026setting up one of the biggest box office clashes of the year as it releases alongside Yash’s much-awaited Toxic.

Directed by Ganesh K. Babuwho won praise for his debut film Dada, Karathey Babu marks a significant shift in genre. Unlike his previous relationship drama, the filmmaker ventures into the world of politics with an emotional and realistic narrative centred around an MLA. According to Ganesh K. Babu, while many films have explored political rivalries and power struggles, Karathey Babu focuses on the personal life, emotions and relationships of a politician, offering audiences a fresh perspective on the genre.

Ravi Mohan takes on the titular role, supported by an ensemble cast featuring debutant Daudee Jiwal, KS Ravikumar, Nassar, Shakthi Vasu, VTV Ganesh, Pradeep Antony, Subramaniam Siva, Sri Dhanya, Sandeep Ravi Raj and several others. The screenplay has been written by Ganesh K. Babu along with Rathna Kumar and Bakkiyam Sankarwhile CS itself has composed the music. Cinematography is handled by Ezhil Arasu K.with editing by Kathiresh Alagesan and action choreography by Dhilip Subbarayan.
