Ravi Shankar Prasad lashed out at Rahul Gandhi in Lok Sabha, said- ‘No compromise can ever be made with PM’
New Delhi: The atmosphere in Parliament became heated when a heated debate was witnessed between the ruling party and the opposition during the discussion on the proposal to remove the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. During the debate, senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad made a scathing attack on opposition leader Rahul Gandhi. He alleged that the opposition has failed to maintain the dignity of Parliament and the resolution is a result of political arrogance rather than any genuine issue. Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the resolution brought against the Lok Sabha Speaker is not inspired by serious concerns.
According to Ravi Shankar Prasad, its purpose is only to satisfy the ego of a leader. Without naming Rahul Gandhi, he said that parliamentary procedures should not be used for personal political battles. Appealing to the opposition, Prasad said that it is everyone’s responsibility to respect democratic institutions. He said that constitutional rights like the motion brought against the Speaker should be exercised thoughtfully and responsibly.
Defense of Prime Minister Modi
During this period, Ravi Shankar Prasad also strongly defended Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He termed as wrong those comments of Rahul Gandhi in which the alleged agreements of the Prime Minister were mentioned. He said that making such allegations about the Prime Minister of India is completely baseless. Prasad said in clear words that no compromise is possible with the Prime Minister of the country and such allegations are being made for political gains.

Also mentioned the old incidents of Parliament
In his speech, Ravi Shankar Prasad also mentioned some controversial developments of the last years of Parliament. He told that there was a time when 11 MPs were expelled for taking money in exchange for asking questions. Referring to another incident, he said that once an incident like throwing of black pepper inside the House had also come to light. Prasad said that despite these serious incidents, at that time there was not such a big political drama or protest as is being seen today.
Rahul Gandhi’s answer
At the beginning of this debate, Rahul Gandhi, while presenting his views, alleged that he was stopped from speaking in Parliament several times. He said that whenever he tries to raise questions on important issues, he is interrupted. Rahul Gandhi said that last time he had tried to raise some basic questions related to the Prime Minister, but he did not get the opportunity to express his views completely. He also said that preventing the leader of the opposition from speaking is against democratic traditions.
Rahul Gandhi also accused the office of the Lok Sabha Speaker of not giving enough opportunity to the voice of the opposition. According to him, Parliament is not just an institution of one political party but of the entire country. He said that Parliament represents the voice of crores of people of the country. Therefore, every party here should get equal opportunity to express its views.
