Ravi Shastri tipped to replace McCullum as England coach – Tezzbuzz

London, Dec 26: Former England cricketer Monty Panesar has suggested that Ravi Shastri should be considered as England’s next head coach, calling for a change in leadership after the team’s disappointing performance in the 2025–26 Ashes series. With England trailing 3–0 against Australia in the five-match series, pundits and former players are increasingly questioning the future of current coach Brendon McCullum and the aggressive “Bazball” approach associated with his tenure.

Speaking to journalist Ravi Bisht, Panesar said England needs a coach with proven expertise in beating Australia, pointing to Shastri’s successful stints with India — including two Test series wins in Australia — as a strong qualification. “You have to think: who exactly knows how to beat Australia? How do you take advantage of Australia’s weaknesses mentally, physically, and tactically? I think Ravi Shastri should become England’s next head coach,” Panesar said.

Shastri, who coached India from 2017 to 2021, oversaw notable overseas Test victories and helped develop India into a formidable unit abroad. His appointment is being floated amid a broader debate over England’s strategy and leadership, especially following a swift Ashes defeat and questions over the sustainability of the high-intensity Bazball philosophy.

Meanwhile, McCullum has acknowledged the team’s recent struggles but expressed his desire to continue in his role, emphasising his belief in the squad’s potential despite mounting criticism.
