New Delhi: Ravichandran Ashwin surprised the cricket world by suddenly announcing his retirement in the middle of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2024. He played the last match of his career in Adelaide, where the Indian team had to face defeat by 10 wickets in the Pink Ball Test. Ashwin has now explained why he decided to retire. While talking to an English media channel, Ashwin said that the thought of retirement comes to the mind of a cricketer when he reaches this stage. He also said that he never hid what was in his heart. He believes that the day he feels that the team no longer needs him, that will be the day his cricket career ends. Apart from this, Ashwin told that he has always kept cricket above his personal life.

Explaining the reason for his retirement, Ashwin said, “I had thought about it many times. I believed that my last day would be the one when I feel that I have nothing more to achieve here.” He also said, “I have no regrets on my decision because I achieved this position through hard work. I am proud that cricket came into my life, which gave a purpose and direction to my life.
