Ravichandran Ashwin’s father gives HUGE statement following son’s retirement
Ashwin’s father, Ravichandran has stated that his son was getting humiliated in the Indian team and the reason to that was because he wasn’t getting a regular spot in the playing XI
Veteran India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin shockingly announced his retirement from international cricket on Wednesday following the conclusion of the Brisbane Test between India and Australia.
However, his decision to retire may have more to do than him not being able to keep up with the youngsters in the team. In an interview with CNN News 18, Ravichandran, Ashwin’s father has said that his son was being humiliated in the Indian team which contributed to him announcing an abrupt retirement.
“I too came to know last minute, actually. What was going on in his mind I don’t know. He just announced. I too accepted it with full pleasure. I did not have any feeling at all for that. But the way he gave his retirement, one part I was very happy, another part not happy because he should have continued,” Ravichandran said.
Ravichandran also hinted that Ashwin ending his international career abruptly has to do with him not getting a regular spot in the playing XI.
“(Retiring) is his (Ashwin’s) wish and desire, I cannot interfere in that, but the way in which he gave that, there could be many reasons. Only Ashwin knows, maybe humiliation,” Ravichandran added.
Though Ashwin’s family was in a state of shock, they knew that the spinner would eventually reach a breaking point due to the ‘humiliation’.
“Definitely, no doubt about it (being emotional for the family), because he was on the field for 14-15 years. The sudden change – retirement – gave us really kind of a shock. At the same time, we were expecting it because humiliation was going on. How long he can tolerate all those things? Probably, he would have decided on his own,” Ravichandran said.
Ashwin retired from international cricket as one of the finest bowlers to ever don the Indian jersey. With a total of 765 wickets and countless other records, Ashwin’s legacy will definitely live on for generations to come.
