Central government failed to stop terrorism, Congress said – diverting attention from issues like restoration of statehood

Srinagar: Congress has expressed concern over the consecutive terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. Along with this, the State Congress Committee has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party led Central Government of failing to stop terrorism in the Union Territory. The party also accused the BJP of diverting attention from core issues like terrorism, unemployment, empowering the elected government and restoration of statehood.

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma told reporters, “We are concerned about the increasing terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP led central government has failed to stop terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir even after making it a union territory.

“It is diverting attention from the main issues like terrorism, unemployment and restoration of statehood.” He also condemned the killing of two Village Defense Guards (VDGs) in Kishtwar on Thursday and raised questions about the “inability of the central government to curb terrorism”. Sharma accused BJP leaders of adopting distraction tactics in the Assembly instead of addressing security concerns.

Regarding the incident, CM Omar Abdullah wrote on social media platform The terrorists killed two innocent people who had taken their cattle to graze. I condemn this attack and express my condolences to the families. “At the same time, I expect the security forces to take swift action to plug any gaps in our counter-terrorism grid and ensure that such attacks stop completely.”
