Shopkeeper cannot refuse to accept clean notes

According to the rules of the Reserve Bank of India, the central bank that controls all the banks of the country, if your notes get wet while playing Holi or due to any other reason, then they can be dried and used again. No shopkeeper can refuse to accept such notes as long as all its numbers are visible.

Notes can be changed in the bank

Mostly it has also been seen that many shopkeepers refuse to accept colored notes. According to RBI, as long as the security feature of colored notes is not affected, the shopkeeper cannot refuse to accept them. If you want, you can go to your bank and ask for change of such notes. The bank cannot refuse to accept such notes.

Consumers can change up to 20 pieces for free

Torn, dirty, discolored and mutilated notes can be exchanged by consumers in any bank branch (government or private) without being an account holder. As per RBI rules, consumers can exchange up to 20 pieces for free. Keep in mind here that heavily burnt or weak notes will have to be taken to the RBI issue office.
