Plastic Currency: Are plastic notes going to come to India now? RBI issues global tender for polymer substrate sheets
Plastic Currency: A major change may soon be seen in India’s currency system. According to media reports, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is preparing to introduce polymer notes. Therefore, it is believed that very soon plastic notes can be seen in the country. The government and RBI believe that by bringing this technology in the country, the lifespan of the notes will increase and fake currency can be completely controlled.
According to media reports, RBI is soon starting a pilot project for the operation of polymer notes in the country, for which major preparations have also been made. However, right now there is talk of launching it on a large scale only after testing and seeing its success.
When and how many rupee notes will come into circulation?
According to media reports, preparations have been intensified for the arrival of plastic currency notes. However, no official information has been revealed yet regarding the date or time of launching these notes. But, it is believed that the government can start its operation in the country with 10 and 20 rupee notes. According to reports, full scale rollout of plastic notes may start from the year 2027. It is believed that it may be quite different from paper notes.
Will plastic notes really be beneficial?
If seen, plastic currency can be more durable and stronger than paper notes. This currency can be used for a longer time than paper. Due to their long shelf life, there is no need to print again and again. However, a lot of money has to be spent in exchanging the notes and making new plastic notes. However, every year the government expenditure on printing and maintaining notes will reduce to a great extent.
