RCB continues its dominance in IPL 2026, made first place in the playoffs by defeating Punjab Kings

New Delhi: In a very exciting and high-scoring match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) performed brilliantly and defeated Punjab Kings by 23 runs. With this resounding victory, RCB has officially become the first team to seal the playoff ticket this season. On the other hand, after this crushing defeat, the path of Punjab Kings has become very difficult. This is Punjab’s sixth consecutive defeat.

RCB scored a mountain of runs

In this 61st match of the tournament, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and invited RCB to bat first. RCB posted a huge score of 222 runs on the board after losing only 4 wickets in 20 overs. Jacob Bethel (11 runs), who came to start the innings, quickly returned to the pavilion. After this, star batsman Virat Kohli took charge. Kohli along with Devdutt Padikal made an excellent partnership of 76 runs in 41 balls for the second wicket. Padikkal scored a brisk 45 runs in 25 balls, hitting 3 sixes and 4 fours in his innings.

RCB cut playoff ticket

Even after Padikal’s dismissal, Virat Kohli’s bat did not stop. He batted brilliantly and scored a half-century of 58 runs in 37 balls, which included 3 sixes and 4 fours. After Kohli’s dismissal, Venkatesh Iyer adopted a more aggressive stance. Facing 40 balls, Venkatesh Iyer played an unbeaten and match-winning inning of 73 runs with the help of 4 brilliant sixes and 8 fours.

Punjab disintegrated under the pressure of runs

Punjab Kings, who set out to chase the huge and challenging target of 223 runs, did not have a good start. Although Punjab’s batsmen continued to fight till the last over, they kept losing their wickets at regular intervals in front of RCB’s disciplined bowling attack. The entire team together could only reach the score of 199 runs in the last over and the match slipped out of their hands by 23 runs. While this defeat has dealt a blow to Punjab’s playoff hopes, the celebration of qualifying first has started in the RCB camp.
