RCB star player ruled out ahead of playoffs, MI sign two new players
Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Jacob Bethell has been ruled out for the remaining matches of the IPL 2026. Bethell, who didn’t play in the franchise’s last league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, is returning to England for rehabilitation ahead of international matches.
RCB are set to take on the Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1. The defending champions topped the table despite losing to Pat Cummins’ team in Hyderabad.
Bethell injured his finger in the PBKS vs RCB match and didn’t take the field against the Sunrisers. The English player injured himself while trying to catch the ball.
“Jacob Bethell has sustained an injury to his left ring finger during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s match against Punjab Kings. Following medical assessment, Jacob will return to England for further evaluation ahead of England’s upcoming Test series,” RCB said in a statement.
The England and Wales Cricket Board mentioned that RCB has agreed to release the player.
“The England and Wales Cricket Board has agreed with Royal Challengers Bengaluru that top-order batter Jacob Bethell will return to the UK after sustaining a left ring finger injury while playing in the Indian Premier League. He will be fully assessed and monitored by the England Men’s medical team on his return to determine his availability for selection for the Rothesay first Test against New Zealand at Lord’s, starting on Thursday, June 4,” the ECB statement said.
Meanwhile, Phil Salt has joined the RCB squad after recovering from his injury.
