RCB will wear jersey number 11 in memory of those killed in the IPL 2025 stampede, these special arrangements will be made in the stadium.
Bengaluru: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) players will wear the number 11 jersey during pre-match warm-up in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in memory of the 11 people who died in the stampede during the team’s victory celebrations last year. RCB won the IPL trophy for the first time last year. To celebrate this victory, a function was organized at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4. Due to lack of proper security arrangements, a stampede broke out in which 11 people lost their lives. After this RCB had to face severe criticism.
RCB CEO Rajesh Menon told reporters on Tuesday, “Players will wear jersey number 11 during practice on match day. During the match, he will be seen in his jersey number only. During practice, all the players will have jersey number 11 written on their backs. Apart from this, they will also wear black sunglasses on that day. We are also considering making 11 permanent seats in the Chinnaswamy Stadium. This is for the 11 fans who will always be with us.
The defending champions will play their first match here against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 28, which will be their first of five home matches to be played at this ground. RCB will play its remaining two home matches in this IPL at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur.
