Read Marathon Hue 2026 unveils khanh-inspired medal design
Across previous seasons, Read Marathon Hue has drawn on distinctive cultural symbols of the former imperial capital for its medal designs. This year, the medal takes the form of khanha royal plaque long seen in the architecture of temples, palaces, tombs and ornamental screens from the Nguyen Dynasty.
For local audiences, the motif suggests peace and good fortune. In imperial history, it also recalls ceremonial objects once used by kings to honor people for their service to the country, giving the medal an added sense of recognition and prestige.

“Inspired by the khanh motif, our design team transformed its shape into the medal’s main structure. The medal is meant to feel like a gift of honor, carrying Hue’s identity and celebrating every runner’s effort,” a representative of the organizers said.
The design also highlights two of Hue’s well-known landmarks: Nghenh Luong Dinh and Phu Van Lau, both located along the Perfume River in the heart of the city. These sites offer a glimpse into Hue’s historic landscape, where royal architecture, riverfront scenery and everyday local life meet.
On the front of the medal, Nghenh Luong Dinh appears at the center against a deep red background, a color often associated with imperial art and ceremony. Stylized cloud patterns behind the structure add a court-inspired visual layer, while metallic details give the design a formal and celebratory look.
A ring of traditional decorative motifs frames the medal, reinforcing the connection to Hue’s artistic heritage. The word “Hue” is placed prominently at the bottom as a clear visual signature of the host city.
The reverse side uses a more restrained metallic tone to emphasize Phu Van Lau, a historic pavilion once used for posting royal announcements. Its engraved lines create a quieter, more classic finish, balancing the richer front design. At the base of the medal is a fan-shaped detail inspired by Vu Phien, a well-known royal court dance from Hue.

Over five editions, the race has used its medals to tell different stories about Hue, from court dance and royal symbols to cultural icons linked with the former imperial capital. This year’s design continues that approach by connecting sport with heritage in a way that is easy for runners to carry home.
For many participants, the medal is more than a souvenir from race day. It is also a small window into Hue, one of Vietnam’s most culturally rich destinations, where ancient citadels, riverside monuments and tree-lined streets create a race experience unlike any other.
Read Marathon Hue 2026 is scheduled for April 19, with early-bird registration now open. Runners can learn more and register here.
