Real Madrid advance talks to sign Enzo Fernandez; Chelsea negotiations set to begin

Real Madrid have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, with official negotiations between the two clubs expected to begin in the coming days.

The Argentine World Cup winner has emerged as one of Real Madrid’s top midfield targets as the club continues planning its long-term rebuild under new manager Xabi Alonso. Reports suggest the Spanish giants are now advancing discussions over a potential deal after identifying Fernandez as a priority signing.

The latest development follows earlier reports that Real Madrid had placed Fernandez at the top of their summer wishlist. Chelsea, however, are expected to demand a significant fee for the midfielder, having paid a British-record £105 million to sign him from Benfica in January 2023.

Fernandez enjoyed an impressive 2025-26 campaign, contributing 15 goals across all competitions while cementing his role as one of Chelsea’s key players. Despite his performances, speculation over his future has continued.

When asked about his future earlier this year, Fernandez kept the door open to a possible exit.

“I don’t know, there are eight games left and then the FA Cup. Then there’s the World Cup, and then we’ll see,” he said in March.

Chelsea are understood to be reluctant to part ways with the Argentine international, given his importance to the squad and the substantial investment made in securing his services. However, Real Madrid’s interest is expected to test the London club’s resolve as talks gather pace.

Neither club has officially commented on the reported negotiations. Should discussions progress successfully, the move would rank among the biggest transfers of the summer window.
