The new Boeing 747-8I aircraft is painted in the colors of the American flag – red, white and navy blue. In contrast, the older aircraft is light sky blue, having been used by US presidents for nearly 40 years. A picture of the American national flag is also imprinted on the tail of the new aircraft.
“The biggest difference is the size. It’s almost twice as big. These are the new colors – red, white and blue. We also liked the light blue, but it was time for a change… I like the colors of the American flag,” Trump said at a ceremony near Joint Base Andrews (the main base for the president’s official aircraft).
Why the need to acquire the aircraft from the Emir of Qatar? According to the US Air Force, this aircraft will soon perform ‘test flights’, which will be its final test before being used to transport the President. President Trump said that he took the initiative to acquire this aircraft from the Emir of Qatar (ruler of Qatar) because he was frustrated with the delays in Boeing’s ‘Air Force One replacement program’. Along with this, there was also increasing talk of comparing the aging aircraft of the US presidential fleet with more modern aircraft of foreign governments.
“I asked the Emir if we could use this brand new 747 plane,” Trump said.
He also clarified that this aircraft has completed relatively very few flight hours.
Trump further said, “Look, no normal president does this. A normal president wants to stay away from matters like airplanes but our country should be represented properly.”
It has been prepared on strict security standards
The US Air Force says that any aircraft to be made ‘Air Force One’ has to meet very strict security standards. According to the Air Force, necessary modifications have been made to this aircraft received from Qatar as part of a well-organized and disciplined engineering process.
A glimpse will be seen on July 4 and NATO summit
President Trump has announced that the new ‘Air Force One’ will perform an aerial demonstration (flypast) during the celebrations to be held on the ‘National Mall’ on July 4 on the occasion of America’s 250th Independence Day. Additionally, the President also shared that he will be using the same new aircraft to attend the NATO summit in Turkey next month.
