‘Recovery of uncle-nephew and bad omen’: CM Yogi’s strong attack on SP in the great battle of UP 2027
The chessboard for Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2027 has already started to be laid. The war of words between Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav has intensified to such an extent that now a phase of personal attacks has started. Recently, Akhilesh Yadav seriously accused the BJP government of making UP a ‘sick state’, countering which CM Yogi has targeted not only Akhilesh but also his uncle Shivpal Yadav.
Called SP government as ‘bad omen’ and ‘stigma’
CM Yogi Adityanath has termed the Samajwadi Party government before 2017 as the “biggest bad omen and stigma” for the state. Adopting a sharp tone, Yogi said that at that time the education system was completely in disarray and government jobs were occupied by only one family. He alleged that jobs did not come out in the SP government, and even if they did come out by mistake, the ‘uncle-nephew duo’ would go into the field to recover them. No work was done without giving bribe, which Yogi termed as a big stain on the name of the system.
Identity crisis and terrorism connection
Referring to Azamgarh and Banaras, CM Yogi said that the earlier governments had erased the identity of these cities. He claimed that during SP rule, people were afraid of giving rooms in hotels and Dharamshala as soon as they heard the name of Azamgarh. Banaras, which is famous all over the world for its Banarasi sarees, was made a hub of terrorism by the previous governments. According to the CM, he has worked hard over the years to bring back the lost identity of UP and he is warning the public that all this will be ruined again if SP comes back to power.
BJP’s old ‘formula’ strategy
There is talk in political circles that CM Yogi repeatedly reminding the old governments is no coincidence. This is an old and successful election formula of BJP, which apart from UP, it has also been using in states like Bihar, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The BJP’s strategy is clear: while touting development work, they keep reminding the public of the past mistakes and ‘misdeeds’ of the opposition parties. This not only keeps old memories fresh, but also keeps new voters from turning to opposition parties. CM Yogi’s goal is clear—to project the opposition’s image as synonymous with ‘instability’ and ‘recovery’ with claims of development.
