Red alert for women: If these two hormones present in your body go out of control, then breast cancer can occur.
News India Live, Digital Desk: Often we women postpone the small changes happening in our body by saying, “Oh, this is normal” or “It will happen due to fatigue”. We consider it to be normal that periods go back and forth, sudden weight gain or mood swings. But health experts are now giving a warning which every woman, irrespective of her age, should listen to very seriously. That warning is Hormonal Imbalance. Doctors believe that impaired balance of estrogen and progesterone hormones can directly increase the risk of breast cancer. What do these hormones do? Let us make it easy to understand. There are two main female hormones in our body called estrogen and progesterone. Estrogen: Its job is to develop the body and help the cells to grow. Progesterone: It keeps the growth of cells under control. As long as these two work together like friends, everything is fine. But the problem starts when the level of estrogen in the body increases too much and the progesterone that stops it decreases. In medical language, it is called ‘estrogen dominance’. What is its connection with cancer? Experts say that when estrogen increases excessively, it starts ordering the breast cells to multiply faster than necessary. When cells grow so rapidly and uncontrollably, they can eventually take the form of a tumor or cancer. Which women are at greater risk? Although hormones can go haywire at any time, there are some situations where the risk is higher: Late Menopause: Women whose periods stop after the age of 55, their body remains exposed to estrogen for a long time. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT): Some medicines taken to reduce the symptoms of menopause increase artificial hormones in the body, which can increase the risk. Obesity and lifestyle: Extra fat in the body also produces estrogen. Therefore, overweight women should be cautious. Late pregnancy: Planning the first pregnancy after the age of 30 also affects the hormonal cycle. Symptoms, which should not be ignored (Symptoms to Watch) Just having a lump in the breast is not a sign. If you feel these changes in the body, consult a doctor: Too many or too few periods. Constant heaviness or pain in the breasts. Sudden extreme irritability or depression. Rapid hair fall or unwanted facial hair. What to do to avoid it? There is no need to panic, just a little awareness is needed. Be active: Walk or exercise for 30 minutes daily, this helps in regulating the hormones naturally. Balances. Right diet: Eat fiber rich food and reduce junk food. Regular checkup: Get yourself checked every year after the age of 30-35. If anyone in the family has a history of cancer, be even more cautious.
