Red alert of weather in Delhi-NCR, severe cold and poisonous air increased the difficulty.

New Delhi. It is extremely cold in the national capital Delhi today. Air pollution remains at dangerous levels. There was dense fog in the capital in the morning. This reduced visibility significantly in some areas. Amidst all this, Republic Day rehearsals continued at India Gate under challenging circumstances.

India Meteorological Department said that the temperature in Delhi was recorded around 11 degrees Celsius this morning. There was very dense fog in the early hours of the morning. According to the department, a layer of dense fog will persist throughout the day. The weather is likely to improve from tomorrow. The maximum and minimum temperatures of Delhi are expected to range between 15 to 17 and 9 to 11 degrees Celsius respectively. The minimum temperature is likely to be 2 to 4 degrees Celsius above normal. Apart from this, the maximum temperature is predicted to be much below normal.

The air quality in Delhi remained in ‘very poor’ category today, the second day of the New Year. According to Central Pollution Control Board data, the overall air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 348 at around 8:00 am. This is a ‘very poor’ to ‘severe’ category of air. Several air quality monitoring stations reported dangerous levels of pollution. AQI was recorded at 348 in Anand Vihar, 319 in RKpuram, 315 in Rohini, 324 in Mundka, 340 in Chandni Chowk, 292 in ITO, 227 in Bawana and 219 at IGI Airport.
