Red Palash caught fire, forest department alert to handle tourist influx in Purulia
Dol-Holi to Palash season. Along with Buddha Purnima Sendra. Keeping in mind the large number of tourists in Purulia in March and April, the Forest Department has held a coordination meeting with 6 departments. 10 decisions were taken in the meeting of the Purulia Forest Department office last Tuesday. Keeping in mind the festival of Dol-Holi from February 27 to March 6, an order has been issued to cancel the leave of all the staff-officers in all the three forest divisions of Purulia.
Moreover, this time the number of fires in Purulia’s forest area is close to a century, including raiyat land across the district. Moreover, due to the effect of La Nina, it will be relatively hot this time. Keeping that in mind to avoid fires, tourists should not throw flammable materials anywhere in the forest. Therefore, the forest department is arranging special patrolling to protect the forest and wildlife. And within the scope of this work, the forest department and the police will jointly conduct a surprise operation to avoid any untoward incident. What will be the night raid? Besides, the areas where the police, excise and forest departments are sensitive areas. There will be a campaign with special importance. That is ‘Special Response Deployment’ will be.

“We held a multi-departmental coordination meeting keeping in mind Dol-Holi, Palash season as well as Buddha Purnima sendra. Several decisions were taken from that meeting.” In the meeting called by the forest department, three forest divisions Purulia, Kansavati North, Kansavati South including Fire, Excise, Electricity, Police, General Administration, RPF were present. Joint Forest Management Committees were also held in that meeting. All the range officers of the three forest divisions—including ADFOs—were there.
There is a huge tourism around Palash in Purulia. So in no way so as not to kill Palash for reasons such as special patrolling. So that there is no fire in the forest during this festive season. In many cases, this is the time when they try to fulfill their own interests by artificially setting fire to the forest. That is why the forest department and the police will jointly conduct a surprise operation. The surprise operation is being outlined under the supervision of an officer of the rank of DSP. So that no one does any kind of intoxication in the forest. Do not sit in the forest until midnight. Keeping that in mind, the forest department and the excise department have planned a joint operation.
In the past, tourists flock to ‘core areas’ like Bamni Falls in the Ayodhya Pahad area of Purulia. Keeping that in mind, the forest department will conduct operations with excise. So that the festival from Dol to Sendra is completed properly, keeping in mind the sensitive areas, ‘Vulnerable Area Mapping’ will be done by finding the common places under the supervision of the three departments and specially deploying forest workers, police and excise department personnel there, appropriate measures will be taken. Meanwhile, all the range offices of the district up to Sendra will be converted into hospital units. That is, this step is keeping in mind that measures can be taken immediately if any wildlife is injured in any way. Moreover, if a forest worker is injured while fighting a fire in the forest, he can be quickly given saline and oxygen medicine. Besides, there will be at least one bed in the hospital units during this tourist season. So that if a tourist or forest worker falls ill, first aid can be started quickly. The electricity department has been asked to ensure that electricity cables do not spread everywhere in forest areas.
The forest workers said that they will assist the department in this work. In order to ensure that no tourist makes indecent comments or behavior while intoxicated, the police will conduct a joint operation with intoxicating devices in tourist centers across the district. From the deployment of quick response teams in various range areas, the forest department and the police will go to various tourist residences, hotels, cottages, resorts and conduct campaigns on what to do in the forest areas. RPF will conduct a campaign in coordination with the Forest Department at various stations through miking from Dol-Holi to Sendra to protect wildlife.
