“Rediscovered My Love for Football,” Højlund Finds Joy Again After Man United Exit
Danish striker Rasmus Højlund has opened up about a difficult phase during his time at Manchester United, admitting he once felt his journey at the club was nearing its end.
The 21-year-old, now plying his trade at Napoli, shared his thoughts in an interview quoted by Fabrizio Romano. Reflecting on his struggles, Højlund said, “It felt like it was over for me at one point,” highlighting the mental and professional challenges he faced during his stint in England.
However, the forward emphasized that a change of environment has reignited his passion for the game. “Here at Napoli, I’ve rediscovered my love for football,” he said, pointing to a fresh start in Serie A as the turning point in his career. The Danish international also revealed that criticism followed him beyond club football, with doubts emerging even back home in Denmark.
Despite the scrutiny, Højlund remained resilient. “People were writing me off, but I never stopped believing,” he added, underlining the determination that has fueled his resurgence.
Since joining Napoli, Højlund appears revitalized, showcasing renewed confidence and hunger on the pitch. His performances suggest that the move has not only benefited him tactically but also mentally, allowing him to rebuild his identity as a forward.
