Regina Cassandra accused: Being from South is bad in Bollywood

Well-known South Indian cinema actress Regina Cassandra has recently made shocking allegations about Bollywood. 35-year-old Regina revealed in an interview that she was mistreated and looked down upon in the Hindi film industry because she is from South India.

Regina, who originally worked in Telugu and Tamil films, has since been seen in films like ‘Jatt’, ‘Kesari Chapter 2’ and Hindi web series like ‘Rocket Boys’ and ‘Farzi’ on OTT platform.

Chennai-born 35-year-old Regina recently shared her experience on Bollywood sets. He says that being a South Indian, he had to face abusive behavior in Bollywood. The actress claims that she was humiliated on the sets of Hindi films and did not get equal treatment in terms of professional respect. His statement has created a discussion among Bollywood fans and the industry.

Early struggles in Bollywood

Regina Cassandra made her Bollywood debut in the year 2019 with the film ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga’. After this, she was seen in films like ‘Jaat’, ‘Kesari Chapter 2’ and web series like ‘Rocket Boys’, ‘Farzi’ on OTT. Chennai-born Regina said that her proficiency in Hindi language is of high level, she can read and write and acts in her own voice.

He said, it took time for me to feel at home in the Hindi film industry. Many people misbehaved with me not only through words but also through their actions. I felt like I was being looked down upon in a certain way. That’s why I was initially hesitant in North.

Being female and stereotypes

Regina also shared that it is very easy to be stereotyped as a woman in the industry. She said, “It’s a visual medium and once you see something, it sticks in your mind. I always wanted to be versatile. So it was difficult to choose my films, because I don’t always want to do mainstream commercial films.

Regina started acting at the age of just 16. He started his career with a supporting role in the Tamil film ‘Kaanda Naal Mudhal’ (2005). Her first Telugu film was ‘Siva Manasulo Shruti’ (2012), for which she received the SIIMA Award and Best Female Debut. After this, Regina caught the attention of the audience and critics with films like ‘Routine Love Story’ (2010), ‘Kedi Billa Kiladi Ranga’ (2013), ‘Power’ (2014), ‘Pilla Nuvvu Leni Jeevitam’ (2014). His performance was also appreciated on OTT and web platforms.

Regina was born in Chennai, to an Anglo-Indian father from Goa and an Iyengar mother. At the age of nine, she started anchoring for the children’s show ‘Splash’. She received a BSc in Psychology from Women’s Christian College, Chennai and a Masters in Psychology from Madras University.
