No-confidence motion rejected: New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla (Om Birla) was passed a no-confidence motion. The resolution was jointly brought by the opposition India Alliance. There was a strong discussion on this yesterday (11th) in Parliament. The no-confidence motion has been rejected after a heated argument between the ruling party and the opposition. In the whole process, Om Birla had decided not to participate in the proceedings of the Lok Sabha. But after the rejection of the resolution, Om Birla as the Speaker was honored in the House (Parliament of India) are back.

In the history of the Indian Parliament, for the first time in nearly four decades, a no-confidence motion was moved against the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. On Wednesday, the opposition’s motion was overwhelmingly rejected after heated debate and uproar. Speaker Om Birla, who has been absent from the proceedings of the House throughout the incident, has once again taken charge. After this, he broke his silence and took strong notice of the opponents. He presented his side giving a thorough reply to the allegations of the opposition parties. It also clearly states that in a democratic system “rules” trump any individual position.

Defeat of no-confidence motion and Om Birla’s ‘moral’ victory

A no-confidence motion seeking to remove the Lok Sabha Speaker was tabled with the support of around 118 opposition MPs. The main allegation of the opposition parties was that Om Birla’s behavior was “biased” and that he had failed to maintain fairness in the House. However, after two days of intense debate, the proposal was rejected in a voice vote led by Speaker Jagdambika Pal during the vote on Wednesday. After the defeat, the House adjourned for the day.

“Neither the Prime Minister nor the Leader of the Opposition is above the rules

Once again in the Lok Sabha, Om Birla asserted that some members believe that the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) is above the House and can speak on any issue, but no one has such a privilege. Be it Prime Minister, Minister, Leader of Opposition or any other member, everyone has the right to speak as per rules. Om Birla opined that these rules are made by the House itself and they have inherited this system, which it is their constitutional responsibility to uphold.
