Reliance Industries-Jio’s AI mission; AI will set up a data center on 10 GW of green energy

Reliance Industries-Jio Mission: Asia’s richest businessman and chairman of Reliance Industries Mukesh Ambani announced at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 that his company will invest as much as Rs 10 lakh crore in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) over the next seven years. He said that just as Jio has made mobile data affordable and accessible, AI will also be made affordable for common Indians.

Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani said that Jio introduced India to the internet era and will now bring advancements using the growing technology to develop the country. He stressed that India should not take the risk of foreign dependency, i.e. resorting to other countries for technologies like AI.

Ambani said Jio and Reliance will jointly invest on three major pillars. It said that gigawatt-scale AI data centers are important i.e. AI-ready data centers will be set up in Jamnagar using green energy of up to 10 gigawatts. Nationwide edge-compute layer means edge-compute infrastructure will be developed to provide low-latency AI services across the country, integrated with Jio’s telecommunication network. A universal computing infrastructure is also important.

An indigenous and secure AI computing ecosystem will be developed for India, enabling AI services to reach grocery stores, clinics, schools and farms. Mukesh Ambani described it as a “moderate and disciplined capital investment in nation building”, not just a move for commercial gain. He said Jio will play a central role in India’s AI transformation, connecting every citizen, every sector and government services with intelligence. The investment is seen as a major step towards making India self-reliant in AI and taking it to the next stage of the digital revolution.
