Blood test will detect early cancer, Reliance’s Strand Life Sciences gets patent

Strand Life Sciences, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, has received an Indian patent for a technology that can help in early detection of cancer and its possible source using only blood samples. The platform analyzes cell-free DNA and uses genome sequencing, biological data analysis and machine learning.

According to the company, the specialty of this technology is to identify changes in DNA patterns related to cancer, so that the disease can be detected in the early stages and patients can get a chance for better treatment. At present, in a large number of patients, cancer is detected only in the severe stages of the disease.

Ramesh Hariharan, CEO of Strand Life Sciences, said that this patent is an important step towards the development of Artificial Intelligence based liquid biopsy technology. The company aims to develop solutions that can make cancer screening more accurate, implementable on a large scale, and accessible.
