Relief news for ration card holders, due date extended, now e-KYC can be done till 31st March, know details

There is a relief news for the ration card holders of Bihar. The Food and Consumer Protection Department has once again extended the last date for getting e-KYC done for ration card holders. Now all the beneficiaries of the state can get their Aadhaar verification (Electronic Know Your Customer) done by 31 March 2026. Earlier this deadline was fixed till 28 February 2026. Let us tell you that e-KYC of about 1.5 crore beneficiaries is pending in the state.

Keep in mind that if e-KYC is not done by the due date, the benefit of free ration will stop. Along with this, the ration card can be cancelled/blocked, in such a case, you can go to the ration dealer and get biometric (thumb impression or iris) verification done through e-POS machine. People who are living outside the state (like Delhi, Mumbai, Gujarat etc.) do not need to come to Bihar for e-KYC. They can get their e-KYC done by visiting any government ration shop near their current residence.

Why is e-KYC necessary for ration card holders?

  • Aadhaar seeding and biometric verification is necessary to avail continuous benefits of ‘Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana’. e-KYC for every member covered under National Food Security Act (NFSA) It is necessary.   • It is often seen that the names of those people who have died or are not eligible continue to appear in the ration card. Through this process, names of ineligible beneficiaries are removed from the list. e-KYC It is a digital process, in which verification can be done through biometrics on FPS or through OTP on the state portal (wherever available). This requires Aadhaar and biometrics (thumb impression or face). In this, every ration card member has to match his name, date of birth etc. with his Aadhaar data.
